Aloha Man Drives Van Over Child

Washington Co. Sheriff’s Office- 06/04/12

On June 3, 2012, at about 6:57 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a small child that had been driven over by a van. Deputies arrived at 635 SW Concord Way in Aloha, an area of the Enhanced Sheriff’s Patrol District (ESPD).

Deputies learned that the child’s father was driving their 2001 Dodge Caravan from the street into their parking space with his son and daughter sitting on the floor with their feet hanging out of the open sliding door. Apparently, the father, Ignacio Moya-Hernandez, 36, drove onto the curb causing his two-year-old son to fall out. The five-year-old daughter did not fall out of the van. Mr. Moya-Hernandez apparently did not realize his son fell out and continued to drive the van over his son with the rear tire.

The child was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. There are serious injuries which do not appear to be life-threatening.

The investigation has been turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for charging consideration. Alcohol or drugs are not a factor in this incident.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office encourages drivers to have all passengers, especially minor children safely secured in the vehicle regardless of the driving distance. Proper seatbelt and car seat use dramatically reduces injuries and deaths.
